Our story, mission, and vision — celebrating African culture in Bradford and beyond.
Bradford African Festival Arts is a vibrant celebration of African culture, creativity, and heritage in the heart of Bradford. Through music, dance, art, fashion, food, and storytelling, we bring communities together to experience and celebrate the richness and beauty of African traditions both past and present.
The festival was founded in 2024 with a vision to create a platform where African culture can be shared, appreciated, and celebrated by people from all backgrounds. Our first edition was a two-day festival, attracting over 1,500 in-person attendees and more than 3,000 online viewers across streaming platforms.
Following the success of our inaugural event, the festival expanded in 2025 to a four-day celebration, welcoming over 3,000 attendees in person from across the United Kingdom and internationally, including visitors from London, the United States, Tanzania, and beyond.
Bradford African Festival Arts continues to grow through strong partnerships and community collaboration. We remain committed to celebrating African heritage, supporting artists and creatives, and creating meaningful opportunities for communities to connect, learn, and celebrate together.
At Bradford African Festival Arts, our mission is to celebrate, preserve, and promote African culture in all its richness and diversity. Through music, dance, art, fashion, food, and storytelling, we create spaces where communities can come together to connect, share, and learn. We are committed to providing platforms for artists, vendors, and creatives, empowering them to showcase their talent while inspiring pride and appreciation for African heritage.
Our vision is to become a leading cultural festival in the UK and beyond, recognised for uniting communities and showcasing African creativity on a global stage. We strive to inspire understanding, celebration, and pride in African culture, fostering connections that transcend borders and generations. By promoting cultural exchange and artistic expression, we aim to leave a lasting impact on audiences, artists, and communities alike.
This year, BAFA will transform the city of Bradford into a vibrant tapestry of music, dance, theatre, visual arts, and culinary delights.
